A couple of weeks ago we took a trip to Croydon in our London Area Guides section, this week we take a closer look at the restaurants in Croydon. In a Borough with the largest population in Greater London, there are a lot of mouths to feed and the multiculturalism in the area means that variety is in abundance, from American to Vietnamese food.

Cadillac Diner

It’s interesting to note that Cadillac Diner is owned and run by a Turkish couple who keep people’s religious needs in mind, keeping certain areas of the kitchen free of non-Halal meat. An attention to detail that is often overlooked by restaurants of the highest standards, let alone diners.
This American eatery on Wickham Road takes you on a proverbial road trip through the States, with dishes taking influence from New York, Texas and Chicago. Portions are vast while prices aren’t and the décor is fantastic, you can see the owner’s love for the 40s and 50s shining through.

Address: 147 Wickham Road, Croydon CR0 8TE

Albert’s Table

At the other end of the eating spectrum is South Croydon’s Albert’s Table. Opened in 2008, this restaurants serves up traditional British cuisine in modern, innovative ways. The restaurant has gone on to get many plaudits and features in the Michelin and Harden Food Guides.
Expect to see classics like Salmon Soufflé, refined traditional British dishes like Cottage pie and a classical range of desserts.

Nineteen at Farleigh

In keeping with the high-end, British dining style restaurants, let’s talk about Nineteen at Farleigh. This isn't your standard snooty restaurant attached to an exclusive Golf Club and you’d be missing out on a great restaurant if you made this presumption.
Set in the 350-acre Farleigh Golf Club, the setting and surroundings are a great break from the busy lifestyle in Croydon. The brasserie style menu and dining is designed in an effort to be more inclusive to all people, from members of the club to non-members – the general public.
Lunch and dinner is available at Nineteen, with specials, salads, light bites and dishes from the grill available. Afternoon tea is served between services, with a mini menu for the little ones, meaning parents can go and enjoy finger sandwiches, cakes and a selection of loose-leaf teas without the worry that their children’s presence is frowned upon.

Thanh’s Bistro

Thanh’s Bistro offer authentic Vietnamese dishes five nights a week on Lower Addiscombe Road. The restaurant scores highly on Trip Advisor and the internet is full of great reviews. Dishes are all cooked to order, as you’d expect. Thanh’s is great for couples and groups. The noodles, Thai curries and Goi salad come highly recommended. Please note that it’s BYOB.

Little Bay

Little Bay is a restaurant located in the heart of Croydon with a great atmosphere and cuisine taking influences form the whole of Europe. The restaurant may be hidden away but people are certainly finding it, we recommend booking.
The décor here is somewhat reminiscent of an opera or theatre hall, and every Wednesday evening they put on live opera entertainment for patrons to enjoy as well as live music every Saturday.
As mentioned, the menu takes influence from many parts of the continent and offers 2 courses for £11.95 and 3 for £13.95 which is very good value for money, considering you could choose; Choux de crab, slow roast shoulder of lamb and white chocolate and pistachio parfait as your 3 courses!

Address: 32 Selsdon Road, South Croydon CR2 6PB
Telephone: 020 8649 9544
