Father's Day is racing towards us, so it's time to start planning all the ways you can thank your Dad for all that time spent helping with home DIY projects and for hauling those boxes around every time you moved house.
After years of homemade presents, shop bought cards and yet another pair of cufflinks, why not push the boat out this year and plan a fun day out for your Dad in London? We've scouted out the best spots for showing paternal appreciation, from a juicy steak at Hawksmoor to a trip to a cricket museum, so theres something to please every Father.
Dinner with Dad
A Dad's got to eat, and where better to show your appreciation than by treating him to a great meal at a dad-friendly London restaurant? While there are plenty of options to choose from all over London (check out our post on the best places to eat in London for more ideas), it's hard to go wrong with a steak from Hawksmoor or seafood from The Wright Brothers.
For a proper London gastropub dinner try The Running Horse in Mayfair, which serves up a classic British menu in a cosy, traditional setting. Alternatively, if your Dad's got a bit of Caledonian blood or is partial to a Highland visit, try Scottish restaurant Boisdale for haggis, neeps and plenty of whisky.

Whisky fans should stop by The Athenaeum Hotel for their dedicated Whisky Bar, which offers over 300 types of this potent amber liquid with options from as far away as Japan! Meanwhile if Dad thinks of himself as a bit of a James Bond character, take a trip to the legendary Dukes Bar in Mayfair for Ian Fleming's favourite martini.
Perhaps Dad prefers a good wine, or perhaps a selection of real ales? We recommend Vinoteca for the former and local North London favourite the Southampton Arms for the latter.

With the rise of boutique barber shops and mens spas across the city, he'll feel right at home at one of these fantastic venues.

Things to Do with Dad
Now that you're all grown up, turn the tables and take your Dad for a fun activity day this Father's Day in London to make up for all the hours he spent trailing after you at the zoo. If he's interested in art and science, head to the London Science Museum for the fascinating Revelations Photography Exhibition, which explores the influence of early scientific photography on 20th century art.
For cricket-mad patriarchs, why not take him on a tour of the Lord's Cricket Museum in St John's Wood, where the original Ashes Urn is held? For something a bit more energetic, try one of London's many great rock climbing walls for a bonding father-child workout, or go the whole hog and climb up the O2 for stunning views over London.
Finally, for foodie fathers Taste of London will conveniently be running over the Father's Day weekend, so pick up a ticket for the two of you and enjoy demos, workshops and plenty of tastings with some of the world's finest chefs.

Tourist Time with Dad
Whether he's a born and bred Londoner or visiting the city for the first time, it's always fun to try some of London's finest tourist-friendly offerings with your dear old Dad. With so many cool things on offer here there's no need to trawl through the Piccadilly Circus crowds or lurk outside Buckingham Palace though - we're thinking more along the lines of city walks, culture and crowd-pleasing views!
As long as Dad isn't afraid of heights, we're sure he'd enjoy a trip to View From The Shard, London's highest viewing platform, to enjoy views of up to 40 miles over the city on a clear day. For something a little closer to the ground, explore the fascinating history at the Tower of London and let your Dad quiz you on the wives of Henry VIII and show off all his history knowledge.
If it's a sunny day, green-fingered fathers will love an afternoon at Kew Gardens in South-West London followed by a cup of tea at the Orangery (or a drink at a riverside pub in nearby Richmond!) while even urban-friendly Papas can learn a few unusual London facts during the City of London Walking Tours.
