With the rise of what's known as "Generation rent", renting a property has become the most popular choice for young professionals living in London. The millennials that move to the Capital, are looking for high-quality, temporary accommodation that "feels just like home".
However, renting in London has never been an easy job. The process is long, expensive, and the properties never look as good as the ones shown in the pictures...
But what if you could have your dream home with no need to pay for a deposit and agency fees?
A new, special type of landlord has arrived in London with some very cool alternatives for you to consider when looking for a new home.
Read on to discover more about the Build-to-Rent world 🙌🏻
What is Build-to-Rent?
Build-to-Rent refers to private rented residential developments where high-quality interiors meet 24/7 service, amenities included in the price and vibrant local areas.
It's a fast-growing sector which opens many new opportunities in the London rental market and more options for people who are looking for a place to live in the Capital. According to London First,
A growing part of the private rented sector is now being driven by build to rent. In London, just over 10,000 build to rent homes have been built in recent years, close to 9,500 homes are under construction and just over 27,500 homes have planning permission
From the renter's point of view, the benefits can be found in the promise of a more streamlined experience and high-quality management rather than an unreliable, individual private landlord. Also, the flats are new and beautifully designed and most of the Build-to-Rent buildings offer spaces and events to socialise in the comfort of cosy communal areas 🛋
The main idea behind Build-to-Rent consists of the reduction of the fees that need to be paid upfront before moving to a rented place, and the creation of unique spaces to socialise and organise events. The majority of their developments are located in newly regenerated areas with great transport links and strong communities, attractions, cafes and local shops.
How is BTR different?
The BTR developments have a strong focus on service and offer a wider range of amenities when compared to traditional rentals. For example, many of the BTR properties allow pets, have an on-site gym with free classes, a spa room and a roof terrace. In their own words:
What makes build-to-rent different is the focus on service, with build-to-rent developments offeringprofessional on-site management, and amenity, with shared spaces such as residents’ lounges, work-zones and fitness centres typically provided inside the buildings along with the homes.
At Movebubble, we're always trying to spot new ways to make things better for our renters, so we decided to have a closer look at how BTR is changing the rules of the rental game in London 😍 Our Marketing team (including Alfie, our office dog) went to see some of the coolest properties that BTR has to offer, and now we're all dreaming about moving to one of them...
Living in a BTR home
There are so many benefits to choosing a BTR development for your next home - as long as you're a fan of new builds and aren't really looking for an old style victorian house. The features included in the monthly price are so cool that you will struggle to decide what to do with your free time! These include:
- Rooftop terrace with BBQ
- Free gym
- Cinema room
- School on-site
- Social event spaces
- Hireable event spaces
- Work/study spaces

From a contractual point of view, the benefits include reduction of admin fees, and no deposit. Also, most of the BTR developments include utilities and broadband in the monthly price of the rent, which makes things much easier for the renters.
And in most of the flats you can have a pet, too 🐶 Yay!
