From pop-up restaurants featuring owls to two of the biggest sporting events in the calendar, great events in London for April 2015 are in abundance. Here's our pick of where to go, who to see and what to do in the city this April.

Vivienne Westwood: Cut From The Past – Danson House

From Wednesday April 1st

Activist and eccentric but first a fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood’s work is celebrated with an exhibition looking at the impact that 18th century art and design had on her career. A lot of her outfits and designs reference French artists Watteu and Boucher. This features pieces borrowed from V&A including many of Vivienne Westwood’s most famous designs.

Address: Danson Park, Danson Road, Bexleyheath, DA6 8HL
Telephone: 020 8303 6699

My First Ballet: Swan Lake - Peacock Theatre

2nd – 12th April

Every spring, The English National Ballet presents its 'My First Ballet Event', and this year, it’s the turn of Swan Lake. The performance is created specially for children and offers kids as young as three years old the chance to see their first ballet, performed by second year students from The English National Ballet.

Annie The Owl

April 9th – 14th

We’re going to try to avoid obvious owl puns here but puns are a hoot…..too easy. This London pop-up has proved so popular that people have had to register in order to even hope for a seat at a table. We say hope because at the time of writing, a staggering 81,972 had entered the ballot. The pop-up will seat around 120 a night over five nights. Our maths isn’t great but that is a lot of people who will miss out.

Udderbelly Festival – Southbank Centre

9th April – 19th July

Head to the Belvedere Road and look for a giant set of purple udders, do not try and milk them as there are comedians, circus performers and other great things inside. This two month festival of comedy features anything and everything from the alternative-entertainment world, from cabaret to comedians to circus and theatre acts.

Address: Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, South Bank, SE1 8XX
Telephone: 0844 875 0073

Renegade Craft Fair – Old Truman Brewery

11th & 12th April

This event joins us from stateside for its first ever UK spring-visit. It will showcase makers, artisans and crafty crafters from the UK and further afield where attendees can enjoy DIY workshops, exploring installations and all sorts of activities from independent makers.

Address: Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, E1 6QL
Telephone: 0207 770 6001

The Annual Boat Race

The annual boat race between Oxford and Cambridge is on the second Saturday of the month. The men will, for the first time ever, be joined on the water by a women’s race this year. If you want a premium river-side spot you’ll have to be an early-bird because the race attracts crowds of 250,000. Rather than sticking my oar in, I’ll be watching from home with a jug of Pimm’s.

Disney On Ice Presents Magical Ice Festival - SSE Arena, Wembley

22nd - 26th April

Disney on Ice seems to be the logical way to present the likes of Elsa and Annie from Disney’s monster hit of 2014 Frozen, and Disney welcome you to be their guest in the SSE Arena this April where you’ll be able to see many of your favourite characters.

There’s nothing Mickey Mouse about this ice-dancing extravaganza where performers pull out all the stops dressed as the likes of Sebastian from The Little Mermaid to the servants from Beauty and the Beast.

I'm sorry about the puns, when i see a good chance to pun i just can't let it go....

Address: Arena Square, Engineers Way, London HA9 0AA
Telephone: 020 8782 5566

The London Marathon

26th April

It’s too late to register for this year’s marathon but it’s not too late to go along and cheer people on. People can be running for many reasons; to beat their personal best, running in memory of a lost loved one or in aid of a charity, racing a friend or simply because they just love running, but every one of them can go that little bit faster with a positive crowd!

Running 26 miles dressed as your favourite superhero may seem like a pretty jovial idea at first, but believe me, those suits can chafe after time so those running the London Marathon in fancy dress get double kudos from me. Interestingly, you don’t ever see runners practicing in their fancy dress do you….?
