Best Places to Bring in the New Year in Manchester

The new year is almost upon us which for many of us brings renewed hope, faith, energy and new possibilities. Simultaneously, it also means a pretty damn good night out to welcome it in - and we’re not going to say no to that! If you’re in Manchester it’s time to look forward to the brand new year!

If you don’t know what you’re doing yet this New Year's Eve, in this blog post we’re sharing our top five places to bring in the new year in Manchester to make that decision just a little bit easier for you. So let’s go!

Manchester’s New Year’s Eve Firework Celebration

Manchester City Council’s free annual fireworks display will be hosted at a brand new location this year, on Deansgate just outside Manchester Cathedral - the same place as the Christmas lights switch-on last month.

Feel-good music and giant screens will welcome the crowds from around 10:30pm on Tuesday 31st December, leading up to a countdown to midnight - after which a ten-minute long spectacular fireworks display will set the city alight with sparkles and joy.

This is a fun-filled, family-friendly event so if you were hoping to enjoy sparkles in liquid form, you may have to wait ‘til later as this is an alcohol-free gathering. Either way, for fireworks and fun, this is the place to be.

Where: Deansgate and Victoria Street, M3 1ST

Time: 10:30pm - after midnight

Cost: Free

If you’re after a classy New Year’s Eve then you need to check out the New Year’s Eve Gala taking place at the stunning Bridgewater Hall.

This is one of the very few events that are hosting fireworks in Manchester on New Year’s Eve, offering dazzling displays of fireworks alongside a rousing concert of uplifting classics brought to you by the Manchester Concert Orchestra.

If the thought of live classical music while the sky magically comes alive in showers of sparkles is giving you tingles, then book your tickets to this beautiful event now, before they’re all gone!

Where: The Bridgewater Hall, Lower Mosley St, Manchester M2 3WS

Time: Doors open 7:30pm

Bring in 2020 in pure indulgence and luxury while overlooking the whole city, at Manchester’s 20 Stories restaurant; an urban oasis that lies 20 storeys up on the top floor of No.1 Spinningfields.

Here you can treat yourself and a loved one to a champagne reception and live entertainment, followed by an extravagant five-course meal to truly end 2019 with a bang. Midnight nibbles are also included in the price of your ticket; the perfect accompaniment as you watch the city come alive at midnight from 20 storeys high.

Where: No 1 Spinningfields, 1 Hardman Square, Spinningfields, Manchester, M3 3EB

Lost in Wonderland NYE at Gorilla

Follow Alice down the rabbit hole and find yourself lost in the wonderland of Gorilla Manchester, which is hosting a unique seven-hour party extravaganza so you can loudly dance, sing and drink your way into 2020.

Although there are a fair number of club nights happening in Manchester on NYE, this one sounded most appealing to us because of its quirk -  especially as the ‘Mad Hatter’ himself will be giving away free cocktails to the first 100 guests through the doors on the night.

One venue, two rooms and 700 like-minded revellers with music to suit many tastes… if you’re looking for a party this New Year’s Eve, what could be better than heading into wonderland?

Where: 54-56 Whitworth St, Manchester M1 5WW

Time: 9pm - 4am (last entry 1am)

Cost: Tickets starting from £16.75 per person

At home

home-1

Okay, before you say anything, give us a chance to explain...🙄

Many say that staying in is the new going out, and sometimes nothing gets better than cosying up on the sofa when it’s cold outside, and sticking the telly on!

If so, why not stay in this New Year’s Eve, invite a few close friends/family over, pop open a bottle and try and catch the fireworks from the warm indoors? There is nothing quite like talking and laughing your way into a brand new year with your nearest and dearest all around you at home, which is why you certainly shouldn’t rule out staying in this NYE.

Whatever you decide to do for the new year, we hope you have an absolute blast!
