Don't worry if you can’t make it over to Dublin for St Patrick’s Day - London has embraced this annual celebration with vigour, so there are a whole host of events going on in the capital this year.
Traditionally a Christian feast day commemorating Saint Patrick, who brought Christianity to Ireland, St Patrick's Day has become a worldwide phenomenon with every corner of the globe celebrating Irish traditions and culture around the 17th of March with shamrocks, green clothes and plenty of Guinness. Lent restrictions are also lifted for the day, so if you've been craving chocolate this is your chance for a sneaky treat.
If that's not enough of a reason to celebrate, many of these St Patrick’s Day events in London are free, so you’ve got no excuse not to get involved and show off your best Riverdance impression!
London's official St Patrick's Day event is the parade which sets off from Green Park station at 12pm on Sunday March 15th, followed by a proper Irish party in Trafalgar Square with traditional music, a food market, performances and plenty of activities. Get dressed in green and go join the fun!

On the afternoon of Sunday 15th March, Westminster Cathedral will be holding an Irish Tea Dance in the beautiful Westminster Cathedral Hall, with live music and a refreshment stall for tea, coffee and cake. Best of all, the dance is completely free! We can't think of a nicer way to spend Sunday afternoon.
Finally, if you want to celebrate St Patrick's Day without the 'organised fun' element, pop into The Tipperary on Fleet Street, which boasts the title of London's oldest Irish pub. Housed in an amazing 13th century building, the pub celebrated its 400th birthday in 2006. Grab a seat in the corner, order a Guinness, and raise a toast to the Auld Country.
