Camden has smartened up since the smokey, sooty days when the railway first arrived here, but if you like your food with some charcoal flavour, look no further than Q Grill. They specialise in serving locally sourced meat and fish cooked over a charcoal grill pit and in-house smoker, with moreish dishes such as beef ribs, buttermilk chicken and baked macaroni pie. The comfy leather banquettes and sharing boards makes it a great spot for groups, and they do a great weekend brunch too.

An Argentinian barrio-style restaurant with a cosy, rustic interior, La Patagonia dispels the myth that Argentinian spots are only for hardcore carnivores. Following on from the wildly successful Poppies in Shoreditch, Poppies Camden opened a few years ago providing locals with proper East End-style fish n' chips to eat in or take away. The decor is retro, with memorabilia on the walls and a jukebox in the corner, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. We recommend coming in on a Friday night for some live music to accompany your crispy battered cod, crunchy chips and perfectly mushy peas.
