5 of the best shops in Shoreditch you just have to check out!
Shoreditch is one of the creative hubs of London. Once a slightly desolate kind of no-mans land, Shoreditch has always been popular with struggling artists, musicians and other creative types looking for cheap studio space.
This influence became a seed for popularisation, as where the artists go everyone else usually follows. Shoreditch is now where you’ll find your start up media companies, trail-blazing young professionals and arty student types.
Written off many times as having “already peaked” Shoreditch always manages to bring something out the bag, making everyone fall in love with it all over again. One of the things Shoreditch is most famous for is it's fashion. Off-beat outfits, trendsetters and fashion junkies stroll coolly round the streets like nobody's business, flashing their carefully planned outfits as if they just rolled out of bed right into them.
There isn’t anywhere else in London that’s as acutely cool as here. Even if it does have a slight whiff of self conscious cool, who’s perfect? If you’ve got an outfit to buy, money to burn, or you just want to experience what cool London shopping is like, start with:
Boxpark has become a mini Shoreditch landmark. Made of shipping containers, it’s essentially a pop up shopping mall. A mix of hand picked international and lifestyle brands are showcased for a limited time in their own “box shop”. There’s also a bar on the top of the mini complex where you can take a break from shopping, mix with the fashionable crowd, and grab a beer.Address: 2-4 Bethnal Green Rd London, E1 6GY, UK
We had to include at least one jewellery shop and Mawi easily made the cut. As far from your average jewellery shop as you could get, this is the place where you can buy show-stopping pieces, from punk rock necklaces to brightly coloured, originally designed gemstone rings. With collection names like “Rebel Rocks” and “Neo Panther” you can already tell that Mawi is a haven for those bored to death by pearl twinsets.Address: 11 Calvert Avenue, Shoreditch, London, E2 7JP
Luna and Curious
Luna and Curious is of the best places in London to buy unique, good quality presents. This gorgeous shop sells everything from design books and delicate, beautifully made English tea sets with a modern twist (try fine bone china with a sailors tattoo print) to show stopping hand made necklaces and pure wool woven blankets. It’s hard not to buy everything in the shop, so be warned! Check out their amazing bone china tattoo teapots too.Address: 24-26 Calvert Ave, London E2 7JP
