Five of the best cinemas in London

For all you film buffs out there, here is a list of some of the most unusual, luxurious, cool, classic and downright best cinemas in London.

Prince Charles Cinema

Settled in the midst of the huge commercial cinemas in Leicester Square – This gorgeous looking cinema features classic film marathons (think: all the Rocky movies back to back) "Quote Along" nights (possibly dressed up as classic characters from Anchorman or Pulp Fiction) and also shows new films (think: independent films with great reviews). Definitely cheaper and more special than the rest of the fare in the square!

Ritzy Brixton

This beloved Brixton cinema shows the best of the films out there with none of the cheese. Hosting all kinds of concert nights and events upstairs from bring your own record nights to folk and jazz bands. Think big. Think grand.

Brixton Oval, Coldharbour Ln, London SW2 1JG

The Electric Portobello

After a devastating fire hit the building, this cinema is back, as glorious as ever. Luxury leather armchairs, individual cashmere blankets and even front row velvet beds to share… this cinema’s a bit like riding a plane first class, it’s pretty hard to go back to standard! Prices are steeper but it’s worth it for the experience. The bar opens ten minutes before the start of each film and serves cocktails, wine, beer, champagne and ‘substantial cinema snacks’.

Phoenix Cinema

One of the oldest cinemas in the UK, the beautiful Phoenix cinema was saved from being flattened by a wrecking ball by the formation of The Phoenix Cinema Trust. It’s now an independent film theatre showing the best and latest independent and foreign films.

52 High Rd, East Finchley, London N2 9PJ

Olympic Cinema

For those of you who like your sound quality, (or are a little hard of hearing) the Olympic Cinema has Dolby Atmos sound technology to completely “envelop and involve” you in whatever you’re watching. With reclining seats sourced all the way from Norway (comfiest around apparently) you can grab a bag of popcorn or sweets, a bottle of wine from the bar and snuggle down.
